Hello Backers,

Just in case you missed our Delivery Update email. To keep you informed on the last stages we’ve created a timeline to provide a comprehensive overview.

THE TIMELINE

Tech Reviewers - hardcore tech-reviewers
In order to reach your expectations we need to put Nuwa Pen to the test. Over the last few months we’ve seen multiple promising projects launch with a lot of fanfare but fail to live up to the hype. We don’t want that to happen. To avoid it, we’re handing Nuwa Pen to the toughest tech reviewers we can find. These select few will put Nuwa Pen to the test and provide vital real-world feedback allowing us to test the product in expert hands. Their feedback will be gathered and reviewed internally to resolve any remaining concerns.

Beta Testers - your seal of approval
A group of you will be selected at random for the first shipment. This phase will expose us and Nuwa Pen to more insightful user experiences and feedback for product testing. This shipment of a few hundred is scheduled for August. This is the final stage before heading into mass production. All this effort is done to put the Nuwa Pen you’ve envisioned between your fingers.

Resolving your comments
After the beta testers have had time to experience Nuwa Pen and provide feedback we will take a moment to process these comments and adjust what is needed.

Full-scale shipment
From October into December, we'll ship Nuwa Pen to everyone who pre-ordered before May 1st, 2024. If you have to wait until this shipment, you’ll receive an end-stage pen, which will be everything we've promised - technically bulletproof and aesthetically clean.

Lasted Timeline - 11.06.24

FAQs
Why can’t we deliver all pre-orders at once?
Quality. We want to deliver a high-performance product that will meet your expectations. That’s why we’ve stretched our shipping window, to expose Nuwa Pen and test it more thoroughly. Hence why we develop three testing stages. The first is ongoing in-house. The second will be our selected tech reviewers. The third will be a few of you, our Beta Testers. You’ll be the first real customer to have the Nuwa Pen between your fingers.

Why haven’t we tested already?
With a product like ours - the first of its kind - we want to live up to expectations. While we have conducted thorough in-house testing, we know that’s not enough. Before flicking the switch to full-flung mass production, we want and need real-world feedback. This is a vital step that some promising products rush. We don’t want to leave a rock unturned and leave you with an unfulfilled dream.

Who are we going to select for feedback?
Over the last few months, we’ve identified groups that offer real-world user experience and technical feedback. As mentioned, besides our internal review, two more filters are in place before mass production. Firstly, the tech reviewers will present a stringent quality check to pass. Secondly, a randomly selected group of beta testers - people who have pre-ordered. This group will give Nuwa Pen the seal of approval.
Where are the testing groups?
Worldwide. First, the tech reviewers will be a selected group of technology hardcore reviewers. The second group will be randomly selected from our pre-orders.

In what order will shipments be sent after the feedback?
We will ship out according to those who ordered first. Got more questions? We’re always happy to answer them, even the tough ones. After all, you’ve made this whole thing possible. Without your leap of faith, we’d be nowhere.

After we’ve shipped all pre-orders, we’ll prepare ourselves for general sale, which we will make available at the end of the year - just in time for Christmas. Want to become a Beta Tester and review the pen before anyone else? Click here

Best,

Product Update

Last month, we provided you with a handful of recent product updates. We explained how we will continually update the pen even when you have it between your fingers. March was also the month we released our concentration spaces, a piece of the internet where you can go to get things done. And we updated everyone on our recent engineering achievements.

Meet the Nuwa Team

Hardware Engineer

Mark Morcos
We’re thrilled to introduce our colleague, Mark, an industrial design engineer who has been instrumental in the groundbreaking development of the Nuwa Pen. With his expertise in designing, prototyping, building, and actively testing this cutting-edge tool, Mark ensures that the Nuwa Pen pushes the boundaries of innovation and functionality.

Within his role, Mark generates ideas, solutions, and experiments for the mechanical and physical aspects of the Nuwa Pen. Using his 3D modeling skills and expertise in 3D printing, he brings these concepts to life in a tangible way. Through testing and an iterative process, Mark fine-tunes the designs to perfection, preparing them for manufacturing. He's also active outside work, bouldering, gardening, and keeping up with the Formula 1 season.

Get to know more about Mark on LinkedIn.

Have your say!

Nuwa is surrounded by Dutch universities, which allows us to participate in bachelor's and master's thesis. In this case, Masha is finishing her Bachelor's Thesis and needs your help!

She is conducting a 5-minute survey to help us understand how to enhance our website and social media strategy.

Thank you immensely for generously sparing your time! Your contribution is deeply appreciated and will undoubtedly make a significant impact.

Hey there, backer!

You haven't heard from us in a while, sorry about that. We’ve been working flat out to get the Nuwa Pen between your fingers. Here's a taste we’ve been up to: updating the app, testing robustness, experimenting with writing, developing the pen case, and hacking during our recent hackathon.

The Case

Like the rest of the Nuwa Pen process, the case has been custom-made and responsible for a few headaches. We had to calculate how small we could go without compromising the charging power, protection, look, and feel and include handy features to make your life easier. Now we have a case that protects, charges, and looks sleek enough to sit on your pristine desk.

Dropping the pen, not the ball

The Nuwa Pen is practical and innovative - we’re sure of that. But making it resistant to wear and tear is also a priority. No one wants to buy a premium product that breaks after a few months. That’s why we’ve been testing its robustness thoroughly. These tests range from dropping the pen from desk height to pressure testing the tip. The latter has been so thorough that we (our testing rig) clocked over 427,428 cycles in two weeks. That’s a lot of data. And we hope it’ll go a long way to making your Nuwa Pen as resilient as possible.

Lighting the way forwards

Our case isn’t the main show but it’s a major component, hence why we have put so much TLC into it. Two of the best features are how it charges and the lights that indicate the charging process. It took a lot of work to get these working smoothly and looking premium. But we pulled it off. The lights will react to the charging levels and indicate when the case is active or in dream mode.

When you’re creating breakthrough tech, every millimeter counts. From the code to the case, each component has to do its job to make it work. One of our recent successes came in the redesign of our lens. With our improved design, the lens neatly holds and protects the cameras while providing a clear image for our algorithms. For you, our first users, it’ll mean increased accuracy in digitizing your handwriting.

Happy App(y)

As you know, the Nuwa Pen is just one branch of the Nuwa experience. Completing the holy trinity – easter is coming, you can tell– is the pen case and the mobile app. Together, they form a god-like team, converting your handwriting into digital and searchable notes. This month, we have spent considerable time refining the app and increasing its processing speed.

No sleep for the wicked

There are a few stereotypes for tech start-ups - ping pong tables, a not-so-polished office space, odd motivational quotes, and long nights. Our recent hackathon had three of the four (we need to sell a few more pens for the ping pong table). During the hackathon, our engineers set to work on improving assets across the board. And they did very well, ticking off lots of open tasks. But as our lead engineer told us…

"The main highlight was that our CEO [Marc] built a lunch button from scratch programming, flashing the code, soldering, and interfacing it with discord.”
